The People

Jo worked for several years as a university professor in the U.S., and as a Fulbright and Woodrow Wilson
research fellow in Asia. She is a published author, anthropologist, and international development consultant, focusing on projects dealing with global health and gender equality in Nepal and mainland SE Asia.
Jo started mushing several years ago with a recreational team of Alaskan Malamutes, then became intrigued with the speed and endurance of the Alaskan Husky and the world of distance racing. She's competed in the World Championship 300 mile Atta Boy race and the 200 mile Eagle Cap Iditarod qualifier, and has won numerous mid-distance races. Today she enjoys recreational mushing with a mixed team of Malamutes & Alaskans.
In addition to the founders, John and Jo, the Snowlion team includes associates Randy & Carol, and resident caretaker Mike, all of whom share a passion for sled dogs.

While working as a college instructor,
John found time to build a passive-solar home at Lake Tahoe. That was the start of a new career
designing and building vacation homes in the Tahoe and Lassen areas. Since that first house he's built nearly a dozen homes, including a few that were off-the-grid.
In the spring and summer John attends several dogs shows with the Malamutes, and in the fall he helps with training the racing & recreational team. He looks forward to winter race season :"We get to travel to new places, run on incredible trails and catch up with mushing friends we haven't seen in a while."
At Snowlion we are proud of our success in both the racing and show worlds. To date our achievements include five Best in Show Malamutes, a Westminister Best of Breed winner, 47 Working-titles,40 champions and numerous specialty winners.
We are one of the few Malamute breeders to have completed two Iditarod qualifiers. Our racing teams have won top international and national awards.
